In Postal, contact ownership is important as it allows Users to only see and send to contacts assigned to them. When adding a contact directly into Postal, you may encounter an error that indicates the contact already exists. This indicates an ownership conflict.

Depending on whether or not you have an integration set up, you can do the following:

No Integration

The new contact owner will need to upload the contact(s) via the contact import process.


Change the contact owner in the integration (HubSpot, Salesforce, Marketo, etc.). Once this is done, the integration will take approximately 20 minutes to sync back to Postal.

FAQ: What if my contact is not syncing to Postal?

A Postal admin will need to make sure that the contact sync is on in the integration. To troubleshoot, try to disconnect, reconnect, and then give the integration 20 minutes to catch up.
